PEABODY, Mass. – July 30, 2025 – The Essex County Summer Day Program is welcoming Essex County kids this week for fun-filled and educational days, the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker announces. Held at Higgins Middle School in Peabody this week and last week, the program is serving approximately 400 students entering fifth grade from throughout Essex County.
Each week, young attendees learn about topics such as safe and appropriate social media usage, mental health, bullying, public safety, identity bias, and the dangers of drugs and vaping. Such programming is sprinkled in among other fun activities such as trips to Gametime North Shore, the movies, a field day with RECK Fitness, an obstacle course, ice cream, a talent show, and much more.
This year’s programming is made possible thanks to volunteers from police departments from Beverly, Danvers, Georgetown, Gloucester, Ipswich, Lynn, Lynnfield, Marblehead, Peabody, Salem, Saugus, and Swampscott, along with the Peabody Fire Department. In addition, the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, the Massachusetts National Guard, the Anti-Defamation League, EMTs with Cataldo Ambulance and Beauport Ambulance Service, and many staff from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office are leading assorted youth-focused activities.
In addition, this year’s program features sponsorships and donations by AMC Theaters, Bertolino Foods, the Henry R. Breckenridge Charitable Foundation, Cataldo Ambulance, Chick-Fil-A, Gametime North Shore, Lynn Public Schools, Texas Roadhouse, Treadwell’s Ice Cream, and Walmart. The program was launched by former Essex County District Attorney Kevin Burke, and continued under former DA Jonathan Blodgett and now DA Tucker.
Tucker noted, “We are very fortunate to be surrounded by so many supportive partners who understand that the more opportunities kids have to engage in positive activities like these with their peers and law enforcement, the better our community will be for years to come.”
