Former Lynn Police Officer Christopher Gomez Indicted for Assault, Civil Rights Violation

SALEM, Mass. – September 24, 2026 – On September 21, 2026, an Essex County grand jury indicted former Lynn Police Officer Christopher Gomez on one count of assault and battery and one count of a civil rights violation stemming from a May 16, 2026 call for service at a Lynn residence. The civil rights violation indictment alleges that Gomez, responding in his capacity as a Lynn police officer, used unreasonable force, depriving the victim of his right to bodily security guaranteed by federal and state constitutions. Gomez is currently scheduled to be arraigned on October 8, 2026 in Essex County Superior Court in Salem. He has since resigned from the Lynn Police Department.

These indictments are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. While there is body-worn camera depicting the incident, this material will not be released at this time, consistent with ethical rules concerning pre-trial release of information that may prejudice an ongoing criminal proceeding and compromise the fair trial rights of the accused.

The indictments are the result of investigations conducted by the Lynn Police Department and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
