Haverhill Scooter Incident Results in Tragic Death of 12-Year-Old Child

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HAVERHILL, Mass. – June 26, 2026 – Thursday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Portland Street and 5th Avenue in Haverhill following a report of a collision involving a bus and two children who were riding a motorized scooter, Haverhill Police reported. The children were transported to area hospitals for treatment. One of the children, a 12-year-old girl who attended Haverhill public schools, has died, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Haverhill Police Department Chief Wayne Tracy confirm.

Pending family notifications, her identity will not be released by this office at this time. The collision remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Haverhill Police, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
