Zhu Arraigned on Human Trafficking, House of Prostitution Charges

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SALEM, Mass. – October 14, 2026 – In Essex County Superior Court today, Suping Zhu, 39, of Flushing, New York was arraigned on charges of trafficking a person for sexual servitude, deriving support from prostitution, and keeping a house of prostitution. The charges stemmed from an investigation into the now-closed Beauty Garden Spa on Wallace Street in Methuen. The defendant is alleged to have managed the spa, in which female workers were allegedly living on the premises and performing sexual acts for fees during massages. A search warrant was executed on the business on September 4, 2025, and Zhu was later arrested.

Zhu entered pleas of not guilty to the charges before the Hon. Brett A. Tingle. Her bail, which was previously set at her arraignment in the Lawrence District Court, was maintained at $25,000, as was the condition that she surrender her passport. The judge also ordered Zhu to stay away from and have no contact with the victims or witnesses in the case.

Assistant District Attorney Kevin Hennessey is prosecuting the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. Zhu is represented by attorney James McCall.

All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
