Deceased Man Recovered from Central Wharf in Salem Identified

STATEMENT OF ESSEX COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY PAUL F. TUCKER AND SALEM CHIEF OF POLICE LUCAS J. MILLER

August 5, 2026

The Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Salem Chief of Police Lucas J. Miller can confirm that the deceased man recovered from the water near Derby Street at Central Wharf in Salem on July 28 at approximately 9:40 a.m. has been positively identified as Peter T. Bonacci, 64, of Salem. No foul play is suspected.

The death was investigated by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Tucker’s office, the Salem Police Department, the Salem Harbormaster, and the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
