Juvenile Charged in Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in Marblehead

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. – August 20, 2025 – A 16-year-old male has been arrested and was arraigned today in Lynn Juvenile Court in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death of 13-year-old Savanah Gatchell of Marblehead.

He is charged with motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, and operating under the influence of liquor, as well as two civil motor vehicle infractions. As the defendant is a juvenile, under Massachusetts law, his identity and additional information about the case will not be available at this time.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:51 a.m. Tuesday morning in Marblehead in the area of 352 Atlantic Avenue and remains under investigation by the Marblehead Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS), and State Police Crime Scene Services.
