What we do

The Office of Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker protects and serves the 34 cities and towns in Essex County, Mass. It prosecutes criminal offenses in those communities and provides services and support to the victims and witnesses of those crimes.

Through our diversion programs, non-violent juvenile, youthful and drug-addicted offenders are offered services and drug treatment as an alternative to prison.

The office also is mandated by law to investigate all unattended deaths, including homicides and fatal motor vehicle incidents.

In addition, the office reviews child physical/sexual abuse cases, referred by the Department of Children and Families, and works collaboratively with local police and school departments, and community groups.

The collective goal is to address issues such as domestic violence, underage drinking, opiates and elder abuse - all in an effort to keep historic Essex County a safe place to live and work.
