Edwin Rosario Soto Sentenced to 15-18 Years in State Prison for Rape of a Child

SALEM, Mass. – May 30, 2025 – Edwin Rosario Soto, 34, of Lawrence, was sentenced yesterday in Superior Court in Salem after being convicted by a jury on five counts of rape of a child by force, five counts of rape of a child by force aggravated by age difference, and one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14. Rosario Soto was found guilty by an Essex County jury on May 22.

In Superior Court yesterday, the Hon. Lynn C. Rooney sentenced Rosario Soto to 15 to 18 years in state prison, followed by five years of probation. In addition, the court ordered that Rosario Soto must stay away and have no contact with the victim and witnesses in the case, enter sex offender evaluation and treatment, register with the Sex Offender Registry Board (SORB), have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, provide a DNA sample, and abide by any restraining orders.

Assistant District Attorney Maria Markos prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth, with Amy Snow serving as victim/witness advocate. Rosario Soto was represented by attorney Jorge Moura.
